As the end of the financial year approaches, it provides the perfect time to reflect on how individuals can make a lasting impact at PLC Armidale. For families, past and present, whose daughters have benefited from the College’s scholarship program, we invite you to consider contributing to either the Building Fund or the Scholarship Fund. Your tax-deductible donation can have a profound, long-term effect on the students and the school community.
At PLC Armidale, we know that every contribution, no matter how small, plays a part in shaping the future for our students. While larger one-off donations are incredibly generous, there is also immense power in regular, smaller contributions. Imagine if every family—current or past—dedicated just a small, regular gift to the College. Whether it’s the cost of one coffee a week, or a little extra added to your monthly budget, these ongoing donations add up quickly and can create a truly transformative effect...
.... One of the most impactful ways to give is through a subscription-style model, where a small regular gift becomes part of a bigger collective effort. This approach enables us to sustain long-term growth for the Scholarship and Building Funds, ensuring that the College can continue to offer scholarships to deserving girls and improve and expand its facilities over time.
Each year, we see an increase in the number of talented and worthy applicants undergoing the scholarship process of portfolio, examination and interview seeking the opportunity to join the PLC Armidale community. Girls apply for scholarships linked to areas of personal strength aligned to the four pillars of the PLC Armidale experience: Academic Endeavour, the Creative & Performing Arts, Leadership & Service, Sport & Outdoor Education. The interview process with students and their parents once again confirmed the value and place of all-girls education, along with highlighting the more personalised and responsive connection families are seeking. The size of the school is identified as a strength, allowing girls to be known, noticed and given opportunity.
Your contribution to the Scholarship Fund can make a difference in providing access to quality education for those girls who, in turn, will make a valuable contribution to the College.
For many of these girls, a scholarship is not just an opportunity for a world-class education; it’s the key to unlocking their future potential. With your help, we can ensure that PLC Armidale continues to nurture young women who will go on to shape the world in remarkable ways - paying forward ensures giving back.
As we continue to invest in the future of PLC Armidale, the Building Fund is an essential part of ensuring our campus remains a well-resourced and equipped environment for learning. From upgrading classrooms to enhancing facilities, your contributions help us maintain and improve the spaces where our students grow, learn, and thrive.
Whilst PLC Armidale is currently in its 138th year of operation, the move to the Crest Road campus was a mere 60 years ago. The fundraising efforts of those supporting the school enabled the building of the school on land purchased by the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church, NSW.
Newer facilities were added or improved during a period when Commonwealth Government funds were available for capital works. Now, the capital improvement programs in most schools are funded entirely by the school community. Contributions to the Building Fund will assist in the ongoing maintenance of our facilities as well as the improvement or replacement of aging infrastructure. These improvements enhance not only the educational experience but also the overall sense of community for current and future generations.
It’s easy to think that small contributions won’t add up to much, but when we all contribute, even modestly, the cumulative effect is significant. If each family committed to donating just the price of one take away meal per week—it would create a powerful and sustained impact on the College’s future. Over time, these contributions will allow us to increase the number of scholarships offered, expand and improve our facilities, and support the continued excellence of PLC Armidale.
For those whose daughters have benefited from a PLC Armidale scholarship, your contribution will be a way of giving back to the community that gave so much to your family. It’s an opportunity to support the next generation of girls who will walk the same halls and receive the same opportunities your daughter did.
As we near the close of this financial year, we invite you to be part of our Annual Giving Campaign. One-off donations or the small, regular subscription giving may be made via this link .
We have a generous school community, the fund raising initiatives of our Student Representative Committee and P&F demonstrate that. The Annual Giving program enables this generosity to make a lasting difference in the lives of the girls who will follow in your daughter’s footsteps. From little things, big things grow.
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
John Wesley
Throughout the year, we want to acknowledge and celebrate the various interests and accomplishments of PLC Armidale girls. We will be aware of the experiences girls undertake to represent the College. We may not know about experiences and achievements in areas of interest outside of school. Please let our Communications and Marketing Manager, Mrs Arundale know. Mrs Arundale greatly enjoys telling the story of the quality and achievements of our PLC Armidale girls.

who have earned the prestigious opportunity to participate in the National Art School's (NAS) HSC Intensive Studio Practice program in Sydney. This esteemed program, endorsed by the NSW Education Standards Authority, has been nurturing young artists since 2000, offering them a unique platform to advance their artistic skills and prepare for the HSC and beyond.
Held within the historic walls of NAS in Darlinghurst, the HSC Intensive Studio Practice immerses students in a professional art school environment. Under the mentorship of practicing artists, participants engage in intensive, hands-on studio work across various disciplines, including black and white photography, ceramics, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
Selection for this program is highly competitive, requiring students to demonstrate exceptional achievement in their Preliminary Visual Arts Course and a strong commitment to their artistic development. Being chosen signifies not only their current excellence but also their potential to contribute meaningfully to the arts community.

The 2025 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) has commenced! This year we encourage all PLC Armidale girls from Kindergarten to Year 10 to participate in the Challenge.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
The Challenge runs until Friday August 22 and any books read this year from January 1 can be included in your “books read” tally.
Students in Years 7-10 will be provided with a username and password for the PRC site to record the books they have read. They will be given information on how to choose books for the PRC in their English class and will need to read 20 books to meet the requirements of the challenge.
More information on the Challenge can be found at here: https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/home.html

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. Our small school once again demonstrated its strength, raising over $2,000 to support those in need. This generous act of service goes beyond words and truly reflects our community spirit. Special thanks to Mrs Claire Robertson and Mrs Gerry Vanzella for coordinating the event alongside Senior School SRC Co-ordinator, Ms Jennifer Leahy.
Assessment and reporting is in full swing, using the common A–E grade scale and narratives around what has been achieved, engagement and effort and the next steps in learning for each student.
Understanding the language sitting within each grade is important as it communicates how each student is progressing in meeting the expected NSW stage outcomes addressed across a semester.
They offer insight into a student’s current level of understanding and skills, helping to identify strengths and areas for growth. This supports targeted goal setting and meaningful feedback, ensuring each student’s learning journey is purposeful and well guided.
Excellent Achievement – A
The student demonstrates comprehensive and insightful understanding of the subject matter. Work is consistently accurate, thorough, and of a high standard. The student applies skills and knowledge independently and creatively, exceeding expected outcomes.
High Achievement – B
The student shows a strong understanding of concepts and skills. Work is mostly accurate and well-organised, meeting all key requirements. The student applies knowledge effectively, demonstrating consistent effort and engagement.
Sound Achievement – C
The student meets the expected standard for their stage of learning. Work shows satisfactory understanding and application of skills, with occasional guidance needed. Performance is generally consistent and reliable.
Basic Achievement – D
The student demonstrates a developing understanding of concepts but requires support to meet outcomes. Work may show partial completion or inconsistency. There is evidence of effort, but further consolidation of skills is necessary.
Limited Achievement – E
The student shows limited understanding and application of skills. Work is incomplete or below the expected standard, even with support. Continued focus on foundational skills and knowledge is essential to improve learning outcomes.
In addition to academic progress, we also focus on the social aspects of learning; behaviour, effort, and application, which significantly impact each learner’s growth.
An engaged learner asks questions, often thinking critically and creatively, applies effort, and embraces a growth mindset throughout her learning journey.
While academic achievement is often the focus of reporting, it’s important to also recognise the significant social and emotional growth students make—growth that isn’t graded but is deeply impactful. These developments, such as increased confidence, resilience, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively, are crucial to a child's overall success and often represent some of the most remarkable progress during the school year. Such reflections are noted throughout our reports, especially within the General comment section of the report.
You are always welcome to meet with your daughter’s teacher to discuss any aspect of her educational experience beyond the designated parent-teacher interview times. I strongly encourage this connection.
Foundational learning in the primary years is critical as it establishes essential skills in literacy, numeracy, and social development that underpin all future learning.
Early mastery of reading, writing, and basic mathematics not only builds confidence but also supports cognitive development and problem-solving abilities.
The biggest predictors of success in these years include strong language skills, positive engagement with learning, consistent attendance, and supportive home and school environments.
Our small class sizes and focus on English and Mathematics reflect our commitment to building a strong foundation. Our approach prioritises mastering essential skills and processes throughout the K–6 years.
It is wonderful to see our student leaders hosting Guild Gatherings, Chapel, and morning lines each day – last week the girls presented the character strength ‘Bravery’. It was a treat watching the girls weave this theme through their bible passage, games and lessons.
‘Bravery – be strong, be brave, be fearless: Joshua 1:9’

Our Dance and Physical Theatre teams dazzled judges with their powerful, creative interpretations of Shakespearean themes, securing the top titles in their categories at the prestigious state-wide event, presented by Sport For Jove.
Dance duo, Molly Chard and Lucy Ward, captivated audiences with their hypnotic performance inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, while the Physical Theatre pairing of 2024 Dance State Champions, Year 9 students Poppy-Grace Newton and Olive McFarlane, delivered a dynamic and emotionally resonant piece based on Hamlet.

on representing PLC Armidale at the North West Horse Extravaganza in Coonabarabran (the largest High School Equestrian Event in Australia ).
Lillian Meredith in Year 10, had the highest point score of all 15-year-olds competing at the event and was awarded Overall Champion 15-year-old rider across all sections. Showing impressive versatility and horsewomanship Lilly achieved the following: 2nd in her Combined Training 80cm division (dressage and showjumping); 5th in her 80 cm Show Jumping; 1st in the 15yo Working Horse competition; 15yo Sporting Champion (she won the barrels and bending); in Show Riding she was 1st in the Light Weight Hack, Reserve Champion Hack, and Reserve Champion 15 yo rider.
In total, she achieved the third highest point score of all 200 riders in the event!!
Chloe Younghusband also did well for her first year on a new horse, achieving 8th in her division of the One Day Event (a competition including dressage, show jumping and cross country).
While third team member Georgie Blake shone in her first Expo, handling the pressure and excitement to get a 5th place ribbon in one of the showjumping competitions.
Grace Kelso, Hollie Higgins and Tahlia Burney were part of the ADNA 15s representative netball team who competed in Sydney over the long weekend at the State Titles. They finished Runners Up!! A fantastic effort and nearly a third of the team was from our College.
Georgia Scanlon, Evie Matthews and Izzy Macrae were part of the Central North U16s girls representative team who played in the Country State Championships over the long weekend. They finished 5th in the State championships and 3rd in the Country championships.
It was a great day of sporting fixtures and our girls did us proud. Well done to everyone and we look forward to being part of this again next year.
Our senior and junior representative netball teams headed to TAS for the annual Dick Hodgson Shield interschool sports carnival, taking on teams from both TAS and NEGS.
Our senior team, brilliantly led by Bridie and Tilly, had a fantastic day playing beautifully as a team. The girls managed to secure two wins, but more importantly, it was wonderful to see all their hard work and preparation come together in their teamwork and sportsmanship.
Our junior team, captained by Tahlia and Laura, faced quite a challenge with two tough games against an older TAS team. While the matches were demanding, our girls showed incredible spirit and determination throughout. We couldn't be prouder of how they represented our school.
The whole day was really about celebrating girls in sport, and this positive spirit absolutely shone through in every game. It was fantastic to see all the players from all three schools supporting each other and showing great sportsmanship.
A huge thank you to all our girls who competed with such pride and enthusiasm. Thanks also to TAS and NEGS for a wonderful event and this great opportunity for our students to compete and grow in their sporting journey.
We're already looking forward to next year's Dick Hodgsons Shield - bring it on!
Greg Cotterell -Netball Convenor
Our junior representative hockey team began their day at the Dick Hodgson Shield interschool sports carnival by creating their much anticipated lolly salad before heading onto the NEGS fields for a demanding schedule of back-to-back games, with only minutes between matches. The team demonstrated impressive fitness, resilience, and skill, producing high-quality play and working together seamlessly. Their connection on the field and ability to play as a united team was evident, with some fantastic goals scored throughout the day.
Newly appointed captain Lily and vice captain Evie led the team with maturity and enthusiasm, displaying excellent sportsmanship and leadership both on and off the field. The team secured a solid win against NEGS in their first match and narrowly lost their second game against TAS.
This experience served as excellent preparation for the upcoming IGSA competition in Term 3, where the team will face 3–4 matches. Well done to all involved – you represented PLC with pride and were an absolute pleasure to accompany.
Mrs Donaldson Head of Sport
Two outstanding rugby matches were played by PLC Armidale students under the Barbarians banner on Thursday at the Dick Hodgson Shield. The U16s opened the day with a hard-fought and entertaining game, showing great spirit and determination throughout, despite the result not going their way. The U18s followed with a strong start, taking an early lead, but a series of second-half tries saw the momentum shift in favour of the TAS. Both matches were played with intensity and skill, and PLC was proudly and strongly represented across both age groups.

To help protect everyone at our school, we kindly remind all staff and students to wash their hands frequently. Keeping our hands clean is a simple yet powerful step to reduce the spread of illnesses.
Please ensure that you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating, after using the restroom, and after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, please use hand sanitiser.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all at our school.
Just a friendly reminder to all parents: if you haven’t already, please remember to send through your child’s most recent immunisation statement as soon as possible. This is important for ensuring their school records are up to date. Thank you for your cooperation.
If your daughter has an updated treatment plan, new diagnosis or medical needs, it is important that parents update the Edumate Health Conditions of your daughter to ensure that the school is providing the best care.

We've already had a fantastic response, but we’d love to hear from even more of you! If you’re not quite sure how you can get involved, feel free to email us at pandf@plcarmidale.nsw.edu.au.

Our amazing students and staff have put in months of hard work and dedication to bring this classic story to life on stage. Let’s support them by helping to create a welcoming and festive atmosphere for the audience.
