Term 3 | Week 7

2024

From the Principal

MRS NICOLA TAYLOR

PRINCIPAL

Driving through the Duval Street gates into the Campus this week, the grounds depict the aptness of PLC Armidale as a place where girls flourish.

The change of seasons is evident in the blooming of the blossom trees, the vibrant green of the oval, and the bare-branched trees springing back to life. This change reminds us of the transformative nature of the education we seek to provide students. The privilege of listening to our aspirant 2025 student leadership speeches throughout the week validated this further.

As we prepare to farewell the 2024 Prefecture, we are simultaneously electing those who will take their place from Term 4. The election process provides opportunity for our students to step forward, embrace leadership roles, and demonstrate the values that are at the heart of our school community...

The election process itself has provided our students with the opportunity to reflect on what leadership means to them and how they can contribute to the life of the College. It has reinforced the importance of engagement and the power of student voice in shaping the culture of our school. Leadership speeches delivered to a captive audience of staff and students, including our Year 6 girls, added personal voice to the manifestos.

Here are just a few quotes across the speeches delivered:

"I have seen the prefects before now lead in a way that has inspired and built up others."

"These roles have the ability to encourage school unity."

"I have learnt valuable lessons, such as resilience and the importance of supporting each other through teamwork."

"I truly believe that leaving your mark at school is not a physical remanent of yourself like a name scratched into the door… but instead the positive impact you have on others around you."

"I now realise how PLC nurtures relationships both within and beyond its community…because PLC is a place of relationships, where girls nurture and love each other."

Throughout my time at PLC Armidale, I have learnt the lived values of the school through the girls in leadership, their integrity, humility, respect and self-discipline; through them, I have learnt and developed these skills for myself

With the delight of election will come disappointment for those not elected this year.

Leadership comes in many forms. At PLC Armidale, every girl is encouraged to take the lead in her own way, no badge required. Academic Endeavour, the Creative Arts, Leadership & Challenge along with Sport & Outdoor Education - the four pillars of a PLC Armidale experience provide opportunity for this.

We are excited to see how our new prefects will take on the mantle of leadership, working alongside their peers and staff to continue building a vibrant and nurturing school community. Their success will be defined not just by what they achieve, but by how they inspire others to explore, serve and journey.

Congratulations in advance to our 2025 Prefects who will be announced next week !

We look forward to seeing how you will lead with courage, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.

Congratulations

Throughout the year, we want to acknowledge and celebrate the various interests and accomplishments of PLC Armidale girls. We will be aware of the experiences girls undertake to represent the College. We may not know about experiences and achievements in areas of interest outside of school. Please let our Communications and Marketing Manager, Mrs Arundale know. Mrs Arundale greatly enjoys telling the story of the quality and achievements of our PLC Armidale girls.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS WAKE!!

Stage 2 Excursion

Our Stage 2 students visited Saumarez House as part of their history syllabus. They identified one important example of change and one important example of continuity over time in the local community. They then used various sources to describe and explain how daily life has changed or remained the same since colonial times. Afterwards, they viewed 'The Glen and Southern Cross Constellation Sculptures' in Uralla as part of their Creative and Performing Arts curriculum.

Summer Sports Selections

In Week 8, students will receive a form to select their Term 4 Summer Sports preferences. We encourage you to discuss with your daughter/s their interest in various sports and ensure they understand the commitment involved before making their selections.

While participation in sport at PLC is not compulsory, it is highly encouraged. We love seeing our students engage in both familiar sports and exploring new ones.

Please, at any stage if you are unsure of anything or need clarification, send me an email ldonaldson@plcarmidale.nsw.edu.au and I will endeavor to get back to you as soon as possible.

Alternatively, Mrs Stephanie Fahy at the Senior School Reception senior_school_administration@plcarmidale.nsw.edu.au will be able to assist as well.

Sporting Commitments Reminder

Just a friendly reminder about the importance of honoring the commitments your daughters have made to their chosen sports activities. With such a busy term, it's crucial to prioritise these initial commitments. If an unavoidable conflict arises, please ensure they email the coordinating teacher and inform their coach. Thank you for supporting your daughters in this matter.
